Because of our geographic isolation and a certain “home team” bias in our media, Americans tend to be rather “cut off” from events happening in other parts of the world. We only seem to notice them when they have “big news” value (like the election of a new Pope) or relate to things American (like the DaimlerChrysler “marriage” of a few years ago). Yet there are a wealth of fascinating events going on out there that we never hear about. There are also many things we could learn from “tuning in” to what’s happening elsewhere. Thus, your task for this assignment is to research a topic of interest to you and create a Wiki page to share with class. You will work with a partner. It should relate to something going on in a German-speaking country. Use the Gale “Global Issues in Context” and other databases as sources.
Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Environment/Recycling
Alternative fuel/energy sources
Other technological advances
Economic issues (global recession)
Political issues/controversies (Ex: Resurgence of Neonazis)
Art/Music/Film
Use the Global Issues in Context database to find information. See Mrs. Janek if you have a hard time navigating (finding an article) in this database.
